MemberThere are Japanese kobolds?
Sairus323
MemberYep. European kobolds are lizard-like creatures, while japanese ones are dog/wolf-like creatures.
similar situation with orks: european orks are just ugly green guys while japanese are pig-like
BlueDingo
MemberAccording to Wikipedia, kobolds can look like just about anything. It also makes no mention of Japanese ones.

MemberI prefer my Orcs to be on the rugged but doable to strangely sexy and hunky scale lol, I prefer the scaly kind of kobolds, but the furry variety is new to me and interesting. In Warcraft they're mole or rat people which seems a bit unusual.

MemberThe original kobolds from German folklore were standard "fair folk", comparable with pixies, brownies, goblins or any other creature. In D&D their description evolved from goblinoid to rat-like or dog-like and finally settled on draconic in 3E. I think pretty much all modern depictions draw from one of those. Warcraft has them as ratlike creatures that wear candles on their heads. Kobolds in anime seems to be inspired by the Wizardry series, where they're basically anthro dogs. Wizardry had a huge influence in Japan.
