When peace for the kingdoms or whatever you wanna call em can happen, when through so much effort and work, wasted? if you look at the history of that game universe with a slightly grim dark eye, the entire bowestte thing makes sense. Bowser spent his entire kingdom, army, etc on capturing and claiming peach as His. Not to kidnap or ransom her, not to invade but to take her as His.

On the other side

You have two frenemies who have spent so much time fighting over her they have a weary respect for each other, that when pushed to the last moment, and hope, both are denied? Yeah they turn to that weird crown to basically vent off decades of problems, and if you peer deeper in, well psychologically its two brodudes with a serious hate boner for each other, finally getting to hate fuck all they want and exclude the source of this who has turned against them.

So this, meme or not, is basically the both of them, for the moment, realizing that all of this, all of this fighting, death and struggle against each other.. all of the monsters and weapons be they pirhana plants to cannons to goombas, none of this meant anything. So.. they are gonna bang away the stress. Etc.
