  • Can one really call this cub when it's kobolds on a dragon?
Plus lots of people draw them flat-chested as well, that's like "the usual" with them.

No it’s not the size or lack of breasts, there’s a distinct childishness to their proportions and their smooth, rounded “baby-face” features. I tried to ignore it but they really do look like kiddie kobolds :/

Nah, they're just "cutebolds". But either way, given the canon size of Smaug, they'd still be kobolds the size of MINIVANS!

It is really hard to tell with Kobolds, generally. They don't really tend to look too different between childhood and adulthood. I mean, if I were drawing a baby Kobold I'd probably give them bigger heads and eyes relative to the rest of their bodies, in addition to making them smaller overall obviously. I would personally argue in this picture that the Kobolds are actually adults just based on their size relative to this dragon and the surrounding architecture and objects therein. But, you could also argue that the "cub" tag should be based on body type and proportions rather than just age.
As for the Smaug thing, that seemed like a joke as this dragon doesn't really even resemble Smaug and in the movie he was depicted as more of a wyvern.
