what about Big Macintosh's apparent love for dolls? It was a smaller, more subdued moment, but I think it's every bit as meme-worthy as crazy Twilight.

The episode was a bit hard to watch in the beginning. Maybe I'm expecting too much from the show to have some common sense.

Yeah, just like how Pinkie was never really going to murder Rainbow Dash when she walked in on her Silence of the Lambs tea party and Twilight's horn was not really supposed to look like a limp dick after it got infected by the poison joke. The writers do that thing all the time where they imply that something completely inappropriate is about to happen only to turn it into an innocent anti-climax.
