MemberOkay, It's my headcanon now that darkrai is simply talking from his ass because he now feels guilty to have brought Jen into this world. Remember that he's VERY socially inept as we saw when Lopunny gave him an apple.

MemberYou'd think he'd be happy to hear that Jen's down on becoming a human again, because it would mean that what he did had a positive result.
I wish the comic (or Darkrai) would elaborate on the "space between you and the rest of us," since it's not clear what that even means. (At best, this was referenced before when Ninetales said to Jen, "Do you have what it takes to be one of us?" But it wasn't explained then either.)
And everyone seems to forget that Gengar was reincarnated as a Pokemon, rather than being turned into one. He's been a Pokemon all his life! It's not even clear how he should remember anything of his human life, let alone be considered a "human."

MemberIt goes back to that bit where they were at the Stunfisk pond, I think--where even as old and experienced as he was, Kecleon didn't GET what Jen and Gengar were trying to do. Humans and Pokemon fundamentally don't think the same ways, with certain rare exceptions like Mewtwo (due to extreme extenuating circumstances). Eventually those differences would become social strains rather than benefits.
Humans and Pokemon function best as two corresponding halves of a pair, not somehow combined into the same thing. If the latter was true it would have happened already.

MemberI like this idea. But this comic, even with all the writerly horsepower behind it, hasn't quite managed to pull it off. The thing with Kecleon and Jen/Gengar kind of boiled down to "Pokemon don't have intuition," which was dubious at best, and that's about as close as we've gotten to the topic to date.
I've been trying to think of how humans and Pokemon can be complementary, in general. Pokemon have their elemental powers, obviously. But what do humans have, that Pokemon don't, that doesn't leave Pokemon as ineffective simpletons if left to their own devices? (After all, PMD is premised on the idea that Pokemon have built this world without humans.) I've been hoping this comic could give an answer to that, but more and more it looks like we won't be getting one.
Forgot to mention earlier: I really hope Jen will start talking about her family life here. If she doesn't want to go back to being human, it's probably because Lovrina isn't the only crappy family member she has to deal with. (Cue the trope about Gengar et al. being Jen's new family of choice)
Either that, or she's a closet furry ^_^

MemberIt could be something in her human life that she doesn't want to go back to that she hasn't talked about yet...
But this does bump up against the whole issue that's been around since the beginning of the series...Isn't pokemon battling kinda like dogfighting? When pokemon and humans can speak the same language, they demand respect and have intellect to contribute to decisions as they can now talk back instead of just taking orders...A weapon that refuses to fire isn't very efficient. I know they put the whole love and partnership coating over it but this comic seems to take place in a more realistic interpretation of the game world where more than a few people are probably pieces of shit....I think the only real difference with the brains of humans and pokemon is that humans have the experience of education from a young age (Science, History, Psycology) and they just know more than the poke's around them ever will and I think Darkrai is saying that that divide will grow wider which is probably why Mewtwo doesn't hang around with many poke's....
Maybe i'm thinking about it too much....

MemberHave we pinned down the era that Gengar actually comes from? I'd love to see him in a sun hat, grass stalk hanging out of his mouth, doing a badass Iaijutsu draw...otherwise known as "Pulling a Jubei"

MemberResponding to myself.....
Y'see it would make total sense, the hat always puts him in a shadow (Ghost Type), The grass is a stalk of "tall grass" so it attracts wild pokemon to challenge him, and the sword....uh..he's...a...samurai...guy....
I am thinking about this too much.....
