    Two knobs. One is cold. One is hot. You set both to get to the temperature that you like. Hot water starts to run out and all you have to do is start turning the cold knob off.

    also the shower probably heats the water itself nowadays anyway making the entire point moot

    Plenty of showers have the temperature and water pressure separate like that. I've most commonly seen that kind of shower with one knob that twists left and right for temperature, and pulls out of the wall for water pressure.
