Do to a magic-related incident, Natani has a part of his brother's soul, which basically caused him to start identifying as male. Hence why his gender is listed as such.

Nat doesn't "have" part of her brother's soul but was magically hooked up to it like to a life support machine due to otherwise fatal damage to her mind. The more Nat heals, the less she depends on it. In other words, it's Nat's brother's soul manifesting itself - not her own

And that's discounting the whole character arc where it was a revelation for her that strength and masculinity aren't synonymous, a lifetime spent in sexist, patriarchal society warped her worldview on what being a man or a woman means, Zen's soul filling out the blanks altered her perception of who she is, and so on
