As a satanist, this idea pleases me. God gave us a chance to indulge, the devil showed us how, and while we lost access to Paradise in the process, we likely wouldn't know how to admire it if not for the devil's teachings.
I'd like to think in this instance that if God made the machine, the Devil programmed man to be what they are: Selfish, greedy, yet with the wits to realise that the greatest form of pleasure and indulgence can only be obtained with the help of compassion. In a lewd way, it is rather how our teaching tells about how it should've been (well, save for the numerous others). Regarding the Genesis account as only a story, it seems to me that if there were any real issue to eating a piece of fruit from a very specific tree, an intelligent god would have built a fence.
