Look who it is!

So every month I hold a vote over on Patreon for what I should paint, but this month I tossed in the option for making a 3D model instead to see if anyone had any interest in that. Gale was one of the models suggested, and aaaaalmost won the vote, but lost to a traditional 2D painting idea by a vote or two. I ended up making him anyway though, because I didn't have much else to do at the time and I wanted to experiment with some alternative fur methods.

The first method I tried involved some 2D texture stuff and didn't work at all, so I gave up on that. Instead, I started experimenting with blender's new EEVEE renderer. While it doesn't look quite as nice, it's muuuch faster, and I bet with some tinkering I can get it looking better than this. But with an animation the length of my last one, using EEVEE would save a lot of rendering time, which would make creating more stuff even faster and easier.

I haven't decided for sure if I'll make the switch yet, I need to do more experimenting to see how good I can get it to look, but even if I decide to switch back it's as easy as a few materials tweaks so we get to keep Gale either way. I've still got some minor tweaks to do here and there but for the most part he's ready to be put in motion, so we might get to see that in the not too distant future!
