I thought Maddie was actually an adult though?

She's 17, 4 years too young to drink besides she's a shorty compared to the others so she'd need some form of ID to prove she'd be legal anyways.

Thanks cowboy, but everywhere else in the world she's just one year too young and in some countries she could even drink weak alcoholic beverages with her 17 years of age.

Considering that Twokinds is playing in a medieval-ish world it wouldn't surprise me either if every adolescent was already allowed to drink wine or beer.

In the more backwards parts of the world maybe, only 1 year too young in civilized countries though.

Maddie is a basitin not a keidran.
And yeah, keidran do age differently than humans, but basitin age like humans.

I'm going off of where I live in the USA where you have to be 21 to buy drinks but 18 to drive and serve in the army.

Since when do you have to be 18 to drive?? It's always been 16. Or am I just old and out of touch.

You get a learner permit at 16 at least I did but you have to have an adult with you it's 18 to get the actual license to drive alone unless you worked on a farm or something which would be an exception and you can get a license earlier.

In the 90's when I got mine, at 15 you could get your permit, had to have a licensed driver over 21 with you. At 16 you could get a regular license with no restrictions. Driving for a farm (I grew up on one), you had to be a minimum of 13 to operate a tractor (with a safety course). And 16 with license to drive an 18 wheeler (no CDL required). I know they had more restrictions now, but didn't think it was that much.
