I'd imagine it's because of the hips being the halfway point of the body. Something to do with center of mass :)

Meh, not to get into realism with porn, but coming from a real life standard, usually when 'flying' with something like a hang glider or wing suit, we place the lift over the middle/lower back, or under the arms and between the legs. Anyway, continue masterbation, wings are cool either way.
