"Scrawny" is a relative thing. Remember that Jade is like twice as tall as most Basitins and built like a brick shithouse. Even if Maddie's father was unusually large for a Basitin (and given what we've seen of him, I have no reason not to assume that), he's still short and scrawny by Jade's standard.
