    Faeries be vulnerable to iron, not steel.

    I'm not sure that's the point. With these old folk tales, the weaknesses of these creatures was more based in the supernatural, rather than the scientific. I don't fully understand the specific reasoning behind it, but 'cold iron' was able to nullify their powers, as well as inflict lethal wounds upon them. Forging iron at higher temperatures caused it to lose this magical property, making it just as useless as other materials wielded against the fey.
