    Correction:
Ignoring that we already know Angel Dust is a dude, the description of him as effeminate implies he is a man. So while there may be no visible genitalia or other features that make gender obvious, the text implies the character's gender, meaning it is not ambiguous.

I think it goes to show what little sense e621's gender tagging system makes, sometimes. An image of a character everyone knows is a man being described with a word which by its definition states he's a man, but we can't use the male tag?

It keeps things simple and makes it easier to properly tag things. I don't agree with everything e6 does, but the tagging system of 'tag what you see' was something I could always agree with. Besides, if we took text into consideration, it could raise complications. Lets say a male character states 'I am a woman', which tagging process would you use? The character is male, but the text implies otherwise. Or, say, another situation where you can't see the characters at all, but they describe themselves as a pregnant woman. Would you tag female and pregnancy, even though you can't see it at all?

The tag what you see system allows you to see what you wanna see when searching tags, not what's described or implied.
