Problem?
This is an issue I've been wanting to address for quite some time as it's always sort of bugged me, so I finally got around to doodling something up about it.
Whenever a picture is posted on a furry site involving a female lizard or avian or some such who happens to have anatomy similar to what's pictured here, it's not at all uncommon to see a comment nearby saying that it's "wrong". That lizard and avians can't have breasts because... well, because they don't.
Now, if you're the type who simply prefers female lizards/avians to be breastless like their real life counterparts, than this is not aimed at you. However, if you are the type who feels the need to tell other people that they are wrong for doing this, then I'm afraid I have to tell you it is you who are wrong. And stupid.
First thing's first, remember what we are? We are anthro enthusiasts. Anthro being short for anthropomorphic- non-human things having human characteristics. That is pretty much the only rule here. Even that is more of a guideline. There's no saying exactly what characteristics you can and can't have.
Also, remember that this is fantasy we're talking about here. Odds are however that you're okay with fudging reality a bit. If you weren't, you'd also be bitching about things like hair, bipedal locomotion, sentience, speech, hands or anything even remotely like hands...
We give these animals all kinds of attributes that aren't normal for their species, so what's so special about breasts that they get all the hate? Remember that the other half of the equation is HUMAN. They are animals given -human- qualities. Last I checked, human females have rather nice boobs. Besides, what's to say that an anthropomorphic lizard or bird can't have otherwise human style reproduction?
Once again, if you just prefer them to be without because it fits your interpretation of an anthro better, power to ya. I've got no qualm with you. But I just don't get those folks who try to claim it's wrong or bitch about it whenever they see it. There -is- no wrong here, almost everything we do is pulled out of our imaginations. It's not my problem if you can't imagine a creature that's almost entirely human with a few bits of lizard tossed in still having breasts.
So if you want your furs to be perfectly realistic then fine, you won't hear me make a peep if you choose to draw your non-mammilian species lacking breasts, but I'm going to keep right on drawing tits on my girlies. If you ask me it kinda looks like they're happier that way- at the very least it gives my lessy lizard something fun to play with!
