    No, we rode them because they are faster, allow soldiers to get above the enemy, and because they can carry a much bigger load. A bird is a bird, they fly, don't doubt the words spewing from my fact-hole.

    Actually, horses actually get tired quicker than humans! They're definitely a lot faster, but we can out distance them; a horse would loose in a marathon.

    Horses mainly came into use because they were fashionable. Original they were a military combat use only, for shock troops, and rich people rode them instead of donkeys or small ponies just to show off that they were rich. Eventually horses were affordable for normal people and took over for transport despite tiring easier and not being capable of such a high payload as the donkeys and oxen used by normal people for so long.

    Dragons are possibly the most effective killing machine in all of the fantasy genre. They fly, have sharp claws and teeth, and they breath fire. Plus, arriving somewhere on the back of a dragon is sure to be a pretty dramatic entrance, right?
