Mzzkiti
Artist's comment
I've been feeling really nostalgic lately, so here's a quick bit of fanart featuring a character that may be pretty obscure. She's Mzzkiti, from an old webcomic called Freighter Tails which never got very far, but was still a memorable and formative part of my early webcomic reading days, back in the late 1990's/ early 2000's, along with Freefall and other webcomics from that neck of the internet woods.
She normally wears more clothes than this, but then again, for such a brief comic, it still managed to find ways to get her out of uniform more than once. Very suspicious. I wonder if that's where young me took some inspiration from haha
If you're really curious you can find where she comes from here: http://www.mzzkiti.com/ but be warned, the comic is only a few pages long and the website is from the early 2000's, so... just prepare yourself for a blast from the past. Honestly... a part of me really misses the early days of webcomics and the internet. The good parts, anyway. I don't miss the load times.

MemberI can not adequately express how genuinely elated I am and yet humbled by discovering this portrait! Tom did Mzzkiti incredible justice, capturing all the elements I presented in the original comic, from her side swept "forelocks", to the "G rated" maintaining pectoral ruff (as well as the contrasting shoulder "floof"), followed through with her quasi tiger stripes that counterbalance her leonine "mane" and tail tuft.
I have long dreamed of commissioning Fischbach to depict her in his style (which has developed to a phenomenally professional level), but I read the caveat upon his Patreon page that he doesn't normally do other people's original characters...unless they mean something special to you on a personal level. I figured, "Well, crap, hat leaves me out of the running. Thomas most likely doesn't know Mzzkiti or me from Adam."
But learning I was "mentioned" upon a small private forum, I followed a link that pointed to Deviant Art. I read his description and I was so humbled by what he stated that I honestly think I wept a tear of two. To learn That the modest (and tragically short run) comic that Paul S. Gibbs and I created was one of the influences that inspired Fischbach to create "TwoKinds"?! I honestly don't know what to say! Paul was the one with the "gift of gab". I just made silly drawings featuring a befuddled catgirl.
Again, this is a most welcome surprise, lifting my spirits during this extended period of self isolation.
Sincerely,
Bill Redfern, (surviving) co-creator and illustrator of "Freighter Tails: the Misadventures of Mzzkiti"

MemberMzzkiti's looks are wonderful. The overall picture shows her as good-looking and as a sweet, loving, intelligent person.

MemberAs Mzzkiti's surviving co-creator, I suspect she wouldn't really fit, not unless Tom Fischbach expanded his "universe" to include space opera slapstick humor bordering on the level of Warner Bros. zaniness. If Fischbach were to ask me if he could include her, I honestly don't know how I might answer. Certainly I would be flattered, but it's something I never considered as it seems so "left field, out of nowhere" notion.
