There's no actual evidence he was trying to get banned. All we know is he commented this on multiple posts and a mod accused him of doing it to get banned, and I don't see any reason to think that mod was right about his reason for doing it.

It's called deduction. He wanted to appear smart, clever, whatever so he spammed the same comment 20+ times in hopes he would get banned, so his comment would seem prognosticate.
