First of all, seeing someone else taking video quality this seriously is almost arousing.

Secondly, it doesn't appear to always be the case. It seems like gfycat and redgifs simply keep the original upload without transcoding if it is MP4 or WebM, so in some instances the WebM upload is much higher quality from MP4. Additionally if the source upload is some completely other format, all files are transcoded, at which point even MP4 is pretty lackluster quality. I did figure this out couple months ago but haven't had the time to update wiki and only artist who exclusively posts on gfycat/redgifs seems to be this one, dahsharky, to begin with. Also I do remember checking this in past and coming to conclusion that both WebM and MP4 on gfycat are as bad, but I think in those instances the upload were GIF or other video format, so I came into wrong conclusion.

Yep you're probably right, I reckoned that it was storing the original upload files. And true that dahsharky is one of the only animators around that doesn't use a .moe site or something (for most of their uploads, at least) so they're the only one that advice applies to. I haven't come across any files on gfy/red from anyone where the mp4 was smaller than the webm though so that's new to me.

There are loads of clips from dahsharky on here that need the same HQ treatment so, if anyone wants some high rated uploads on their profile, go right ahead. I certainly can't do them all, the conversion for this limped along at 2fps for me.

Isn't this a reupload? I mean it's good, only problem I had with it was the misshapen pussy, but modeling isn't exactly easy. But I'm pretty sure I've seen this one before. I only clicked it because I thought they might have added sound.
