  • I just have a few questions:
    1. What gender is the human?
    2. What gender is the furry?
    3. Are they both minors?
    4. What's the age difference?
    5. What's the relationship between these two?

I know this comic hasn't gotten into the thick of it, yet, but if they're genuine friends and only within a small age gap, I honestly can't see this as a bad thing...

Masturbation isn't a BAD thing. Study Partners, Chapter 5 touches base on the fact that it's actually a healthy thing and the fact that it's taboo makes no sense. I honestly agree with that notion and teaching someone about it, under the right conditions, isn't a bad thing. If they're like middle school classmates or something and the furry, who looks like a female based on the chest area, figured out masurbation before the human, who appears male, did (they say females mature faster...) and she's(?) just teaching/teasing him(?) about it because she's(?) a year or two older than him(?), then I can't see what's so dark about this (thus far, anyway).

Now, if the furry is a grown ass-adult with no family ties to the human and the human is a minor and there's a significant age difference, then yes, this is bad, but I would then question their relationship and the origin of it.

  • I wonder if there is/should be a tag for this sort of interaction. It does verge on contentious, somebody's going to want to blacklist it. Which is fair enough, I can't speak for other people's experiences.

  • To WhoWillRemember,

I think it's safe to infer the furry is just an online friend, and probably older considering she's both a good artist, and has equipment that isn't too cheap (a drawing tablet and the partial fursuit she's got on.)

And with the fact that the title page says this is about grooming in the furry community, I'm gonna say your last sentence is completely or mostly spot on.

Then ya, I wouldn't be too keen on this kind of interaction.

I think you're over analyzing it. The artist said this is a dark comic, and while I agree whith most of what you said, I think this is not the case. The "keep this a secret from your parents" is a dead giveaway. I remember that when I entered puberty, most of my friends were in the same situation and we talked about it without being shady or secretive, because we saw no reason to hide it.

The main character is an 11 year old boy. I'm 80% sure that the person he's talking to is an adult human female wearing a mask and gloves. They are online friends who probably met in a furry community -- and the adult woman is grooming Leto to her liking, that's what Grimart is making this comic about.

To be honest, I had no idea of the amount of grooming like this that goes on in the furry community. Grimart seems to have a grasp on it, though...

There's the almost unused gaslighting tag. It seems appropriate.

I didn't know that kind of grooming was a thing to begin with...

The fox is clearly a woman and the kid is a boy as one of the previous pages said "Yours looks different" when referring to genitalia. As the description of the comic said this is about grooming in our community so clearly there is a distinct age difference here and we can assume the kid is <12 as he doesn't know anything about sex. Relationship is somewhat irrelevant, but it seems that it was just some adult that found the kid online and started talking which is usually how it happens here.

  • I think people are a bit too hung up on whether the pedophile here is “really” a fox person or just wearing fur suit pieces; it’s a part of the art, so it doesn’t need to be 100% literal. Leto, as a child, sees her exactly as she wants him to see her: what we’re seeing is her persona. which happens to to be a furry, I wish there was a word for that,
basically, part of the reason grooming can occur here is because it doesn’t inspire the same feeling of “stranger danger” kids are taught to fear, this isn’t a scary man in a truck, this is a nice smiling fox who’s listening to them. I would not in ANY WAY try to make the claim the fursonas inherently duplicitous to ANY degree, but a person out to do bad things may hide behide them as a fictionalized, dehumanized barrier to help them get away with some REALLY nasty stuff.

tl;dr, Ceci n’est pas une furrie

Nah, that's when you make someone doubt their own sanity. Same sentiment, different issue.

There's a "grooming" tag from the looks of it it's only for the context of keeping those in the art clean/trim/gussyed up.
So there's no tag that touches on this subject at all. Gaslighting however is not the tag to use for this, as it involves making someone question their sanity and what's right/wrong through blatant manipulation ("What are you talking about? You're just seeing things, I'm right in what's going on here and that's that" for ex.)

With how little this subject actually IS touched on in the furry community in terms of serious art PSAing it, it's unsurprising that there seems to be no tag for the manipulative kind of grooming, but that's unfortunate as well because it means that folks can't just blacklist it.

As for the comic, that kid's innocence is lost forever now. I feel bad for him. But I'm keeping an eye on this as I'm morbidly curious to see how this is handled later. From what I heard, it's gonna get way waaaaaay darker. So I'm also a little scared.

I think the way she's wearing is called "Poodling".
