This reminds me of a scene or two in Soul Eater but I have no idea if that's supposed to be related to that or not.

It's not exclusive to Soul Eater, it's an anime trope, were the camera angles over the character's face to simbolize that the are going insane or that they are extremely nervous and confused

I think part of it is the way they drew Sea Salt. He does have some Soul Eater vibes, despite this being a common trope.

  • He's gone fare beyond his limits
    He's broken to many records
He's level of insanity has maxed out
He has gone to the floating point

(Insert over-dramatic anime gasping and choking)

So...the terrible furry porn voice acting and then someone deepthroating a dildo for animation sound effects, I'll get right on that, boss.

Yup it didn’t originate in anime, Stanley Kubrick liked to use it and then I guess it spread to anime.

  • What if it's not a weird angle or face, the artist just decided to try their hand at making Sea Salt a pug?

Probably cuz it's much easier to pull off well in art and get a satisfying effect.
