I don't think Sam's ability was ever adequately established in this series. At least I can't find it in or around Pride's encounter.

So, to answer a question nobody's asking, because I don't want to waste the math I just did, Sam has been gone from the comic throughout the entirety of volume 2, which was 37 pages long.
Seeing as this comic updates every week, that has been 37 weeks with the boi absent, or about 259 days. that's a few weeks over two thirds of a year.

I think it's less he fucks them and gets their power, but more Sam already has their powers, we're only just learning about it now and seeing Sam use fire like Pride. Or more understandably, he possess the higher ranking member's powers. I can only think this because he says "being able to use you guy's powers to begin with", which I think is implying he has more than just Pride's fire. So basically, Sam is this world's Avatar.
But that's just my working theory so far, it could very well be he just fucks and gets their power, it's only the first page of se new exposition. And I still do like that Sam has the higher ranking guild members' powers. Which is still, indeed, a nice nod to his OG version.

That all being said, I'm super excited to see Sloth back. Sam X Sloth was the best OG OE ship, and it seems like they're already pretty close in this comic so I'm exciteddd 💛

Also, that's just counting the pages in which Sam was absent. But counting form when Gluttony was introduced up until the page before this one, then the Gluttony arc lasted 50 pages in total, or 2 weeks short of a year.
