in a world where people can't determine context

When I first read it I saw two different coloured speech bubbles, both I thought were referring to the two subjects within what's going on as collective "they", so my first thought was that they're not actively participating in the action and are basically just witnessing it on the side.
Then I noticed after I wrote the comment that the two must have been referring to the hyena who, because they have distinct male genitalia, a male name, and a flat chest, I "mistook" for being male, since gender identity is the last thing I look for while browsing a porn site, as shocking as that may sound.
Forgive me for thinking what first appeared to be "sideline commentary" was somewhat strange, as that's what I interpreted the text as when I first saw it and first shrugged it off as a weird grammatical error and decided to ask about it. I wouldn't doubt if I missed anything despite looking at this image quite a bit since I'm a slackjawed moron in my own right, but that's where the source of my confusion came from. It was a genuine error because it's something I'm not used to lmao.

I still don't get what "they" is referring to, or who's even saying it.

My character (and me, irl) uses they/them pronouns. If you don't like it just don't talk to me or about me and you won't have to even worry about pronouns.

Valid point, but not once did I ever say that I have, nor do I have a problem with your/your character's pronouns though. I didn't understand who was talking about whom, that was my only beef with any of it. "They" is a very vague word with a lot of uses, so the word could have been referring to anything in the image. It's incredibly uncommon to see that kind of thing in dialogue and its use tripped me up (see my long-winded explanation from earlier.)

Regardless, it's a great piece and your character is cute as hell.

Thank you, and I apologise then if you weren't trying to be disrespectful or rude, the comment I replied to and the long one after both came across as rude to me so that's why I responded the way I did. My bad. At the end of the day though, like you said in your longer comment, you're browsing a porn site, so focus on the content and not the grammar. I know Braeburned is a native English speaker but a lot of artists aren't so bringing it up it seems like you're going out of your way looking for a gender argument, or are just nitpicking foreigner's use of English; at least from my perspective.

They only ever would be referring to people though, wether that be an individual or group, so really there's only two ways to interpret the dialogue which would be they=hyena or they=hyena+paw friend, so I don't really understand your confusion since both interpretations are correct, they're both messy. And as an aside, you'll be seeing more dialogue with "they" in it as it becomes less and less stigmatized, and eventually becomes normal accepted use. (As in, not tied to a political issue for some god forsaken reason, cuz grammatically it already is accepted use)

It's all good though! No harm, no foul

I feel like the 'tag what you see' ruling tends to not be inclusive or favorable to some transgender/non-binary folks on this site. And there are even times where males/females get mistagged based on what is 'seen', too.

It's not a system that I have seen other sites use, and I think it can generally cause confusion. Certainly no tagging system is perfect, but I think artists/content creators should have more say on the tags used for their work than e621 seems to allow.

I'm sure this is something that the site moderators are aware of as well. And I'm certainly no expert on this topic.

E621 tagging system has lore tags which would include gender. If you see "male" or "female" without "(lore)", it's referring to the genitalia rather than the gender.

I understand complaints from the people to whom the characters belong, but from a viewers standpoint there are plenty of straight men/lesbian women whom don't like dicks, or straight women/gay men whom don't like pussy. Honestly it shouldn't be demonized for people to be unattracted to genitalia; some people only care about personality, but some have specific physical preferences too, and that's okay. Maybe a nonbinary tag could be useful in addition to the standard ones based on perceived sex (especially so *certain* people could blacklist it instead of being disrespectful about it in the comments, and respectful commenters could know to use nonbinary pronouns), and I know people don't like to conflate physical sex characteristics with gender, but the tag-what-you-see system should be interpreted only as such, and not necessarily as a descriptor of peoples' identity.

Gender is gender they can identify or call themselves whatever they want. But if it’s born male or female you cant change that. You can change appearance, terms, and body but you can’t change genetically, what you are.

Don’t hate me for a fact
    I’m just stating a fact
(Edit) lmao knew it, people hate facts. Cant argue with people who don’t understand genetics or biology.
If I’m looking for male on male but come across a post with two females that identify as male it wouldn’t be male on male would it. It would be (female on female)and (transgender)

You seem to be confusing gender and sex

My only problem with the way “they/them” is used is they and them are plural as in more than one more as more often than not referring to a group. Would it not be better to use the word “it” or “it’s”? as it is not plural.

Don’t get me wrong I’ll call someone who’s genetically male who wants to be called a female their preferred pronouns and vice versa.

I’d understand if you were to use the word they/them to identify yourself if it had more context as in “hey you bringing anyone?” “Yea I got someone, however (they) are allergic to birch”.

"You" used to be plural, and "thou" the singular, but we just use you for both now. Same goes for "they". It's used for both, just like in the example thou gave. Pronouns are always used in context, if you just said "She's coming with us too" as an addition to your example, who is she? There's no reason to be pedantic, we all know who the dialogue in the image is referring to.

And I said it before but here it is again. You literally just cut out all the context. Read the comment I replied to, and then my FULL comment. Not arguing tags, arguing pronoun usage and gender. Person is being a cunt about they/them usage and trying to say trans people aren't actually trans saying some stupid shit about genetics, and not once did we say anything about tags. Yes, lore tags can be used, but that's not relevant to the discussion right here. Thanks anyway I guess?

This is something I've always hated with people that have minority gender identities, they seem to think everyone will immediately understand them and if they don't they argue that they're ignorant and or sexist.

Like you've gotta understand not everybody will get gender identity especially if English isn't your first language it makes zero sense. If someone asks a genuine question and the person replying is being an ass how do you think that makes people with different gender identities look

imagine, hypothetically, that you're in the position of someone who is genuinely shitty. no really! imagine you have horrible views on minorities, and want to make their lives worse online. obviously, a lot of people like this exist online, right? So, imagine you're one of them

if you go around acting super offensive and aggressive, everyone will agree you're being super shitty and block you, etc. but no one can get mad at you if you're just pretending to be ignorant. Like you said, there are genuinely a lot of people out there who are confused and uneducated about gender stuff. so, the smartest thing for a shitty person to do is to pretend to be someone like that. If the minority ignores that person or gets mad, they're being aggressive and "making minorities look bad". If the minority takes the time, EVERY time, to explain an easily-googleable issue to a rando, then the shitty person has successfully found a way to waste that minorities time and energy on useless banter and can harrass them the second they get fed up with it

yes, there are genuinely people out there who "don't get it", but you have to understand that the everyday existence of a minority online means dealing with WAY more people who pretend not to get it, on purpose, just to "play devils advocate" and make their day worse. its literally written into their guides on how to harrass minorities online. nothing is more frustrating than having to explain your existence to strangers every day, and having them blame you for "making minorities look bad" if you get frustrated by it. before getting mad about a trans person having to explain that their existence is valid for the 20th time that day, please be a little more understanding of the intentional garbage they deal with daily

anyway im gonna go draw more queer porn. go leave some nice comments on other artists pieces instead of any more on this one

Well said man :) As an nb individual myself, I'm speaking from experience when I say that I cannot begin to tell you how exhausting it is having to deal with this stuff coming from almost every new person I have to introduce myself to for probably the rest of my life. All while half of these people are trying to convert me or something, telling me it makes no sense or that folks always grow out of it or whatever.

And what reeeeally doesn't help is when after having to put up with that stuff IRL, I come on the internet for a bit to escape and relax, just to find even more people making personal attacks on my very identity while defending their argument with totally unbiased "biology and common sense" which, by the way, a basic understanding of any of either biology, endocrinology, physiology, genetics, neuroscience, or reproductive science will ALL tell you that nonbinary people exist, same goes for all trans and intersex people.

Literally just be nice and use Google, it's that easy to figure this stuff out.

Been a long time fan of your work Brae, and this is just one more reason to add to the long list of reasons that you're one of my favorite artists of all time. Thanks for sticking up for my existence dude ✌️

Enby here, 100% agree with this. Also the idea that somehow non-binary identities aren't valid in the context of pornography because they reveal which parts they have down there is, quite frankly, not welcome in these spaces.

As if that’s the case how do I blacklist that? I’m into gay sex but when I’m looking for something specific I don’t want something completely opposite of what I’m looking for.
