My parents weren't really bothered by it. Guess I got lucky, because these horror stories of coming out to parents and being rejected and such seem so absurd to me. It's genuinely unfathomable to me that someone's parents could react this way.

I'll never tell my parents that I'm a furry (specifically a scalie) OR that I'm bi-sexual. My mom might accept that I'm bi-sexual, but my dad certainly won't. My dad's too religious to really accept that.
(That doesn't mean he's homophobic, though. He's quite a respectable person and quite honestly just believes like I do that you do you and as long as you're not harming anyone, what does it matter?. He'll be quite friendly and respectful to any LGBTQ+ people and makes quite sure to not offend or insult them. He just doesn't believe in it because of how he was raised religiously.)

Being a furry, on the other hand, would just shock and confuse them both. I blame ignorance for it, really. People just automatically assume that furry = beastiality, which as we know is not true for the majority of furries. Hell, I got a lecture one time in my WoW guild's Ventrilo (yes, that's right) from an officer who was a furry (and a well respectable person) about how being a furry is NOT always about the sexual appeal, which I honestly think is true for a lot of furries. Quite honestly, the majority of my attraction to dragons has nothing to do with sex, so it's very easy for me to believe that someone can be a furry and NOT an over-sexual deviant who wants to fuck people in fursuits while wearing a fursuit.
But, unfortunately, people of older generations are very traditionally very wary and judgemental of the younger generations and very set in their ways about their beliefs, so most attempts to educate them typically just get ignored or twisted into something else.

So ya, I'm not opening up to my parents anytime soon. XD But, honestly, I don't need to. I'm over 25 years old, so what do my parents need to know my kinks for? That's for between me and my partner, and she has no problems with them. :)

Anyone who reads my long-winded post and gets to this point, let me just say this: your personal interests are really none of your parents' business. Especially if you're an adult (which, if you're on this site, I hope you are!). If you're worried about what your parents might think of you for your interests, but those interests don't involve them, just don't tell them. There's really no reason to. The only person(s) you need to worry about is who you choose to be your life-long partner(s). If they accept you for who you are, then everyone else's opinions be damned.

It's a bit of a stretch to make the connection between liking anthropomorphic characters and raping and murdering.

No one becomes a serial killer because they looked at porn. No one is going to become a child rapist because they were browsing E621. You're being ridiculous.

My parents never liked it and always thought it was me wanting to fuck an animal. I explained it to them and showed them videos about furrys and what we did but they still didn't care...
