I imagine he probably doesn't believe Leto telling him that he fell and suspects something's up. And I don't mean that in a "Oh he doesn't believe his own son" sorta thing, but seeing as we saw only just a few pages back Leto told us that his mother would hit his father when he was living there, he probably suspects that now that he's out she's probably taking shit out on Leto. (And would be right on the money for that assumption too tbh, as when physically abusive people don't have their punching bag anymore, they WILL find the next one. Hell, leto's probably not allowed to tell his dad that she hit him, because classic MANIPULATION tactics!)
