Alternate idea to people saying the mother started the fire. I don't see a door on the right, the mother went in the left. Every line is wobbling, including the table that isn't on fire and the tv that is also not in fire. Leto could be having some sort of fucked up nightmare or hallucination that's making him think the place is on fire. What I'm thinking is about to happen is one of the following:
It is an actual fire either the lighting is just making it not possible to see the right doorway or grimart did actually forget to draw it.
Leto is panicking and thinking everything is falling apart because of what's been happening.
The mother started is and you just can't see the father's door because it is closed, and hers is open because she left so they'd die and she wouldn't.
Nightmare, as stated above.
It could also be a mix of a whole bunch of things and maybe it could be none of these.

I find myself re-thinking my previous comment...you may very well be right. I will say, this kid's life seems to be a nightmare, asleep OR awake...

What happened was that I originally had the door not showing in the house design (not visible because the wall's blocking it), but I forgot to edit the previous page to reflect this change during the sketch phase, as the rest of the pages have this corrected design. I forgot that dad shouldn't be able to be visible walking through the door when we got to actually completing that page. It's easy to forget when I sketched some of these pages up to two weeks in advance to completing them. I don't always refresh myself on continuity when I know I should... I'm a dumbass either way.

I was thinking this was a dream and the dad's door not being visible was symbolic in some way. Then you come and ruin the magic. :P

I am very adept at ruining things, take my highschool career for example.
The squiggly lines is just how Grim is representing heat distortion. When things get hot enough then they will have that "heat wave" kinda look. This happens especially during house fires because the heat is trapped in an enclosed structure.
Also, I might add -- arson is a tricky crime to solve because evidence is often destroyed. However, it is very easy to tell if there was an accelerant used, and they can also find a fire's point of origin. If she started the fire, they'll know, they may not know it was her, but she'd be questioned eventually...

I was gonna say that is heat distortion, which is a really nice touch to be honest.
I thought it was clever because Grim is keeping the appearance of this comic simple so that he can get pages out quicker. The little detail in the lineart was a simple but effective trick to express the scene without him having to put too much detail into it.
I also like the smoke billowing at the roof.
It looks like the fire hasn't spread to be tremendously dangerous, but once it starts it starts and you'd be surprised how fast it can spread. As a house fire spreads it will climb up the walls, curtains, and support beams first -- then it will engulf more and more on the ground. He needs to get out NOW while he still can.
It's good Leto woke up, too, because in many cases smoke inhalation will kill a person before the fire ever gets a chance too...

MemberTbh, immense heat can make vision rather squiggly.
