    True, but I find it dissatisfying once I have to acknowledge it as non-canon.

    It's like finding a deeper meaning to the lore just to find out that meaning is false.

    I believe at least part of this is based on something Tom discussed in a stream. It might only be an idea though, but...
    Evidently, there’s a northern tribe of Basitin, made of those who were banished from the the main island. Given that the symbol on her coat is that of the Basitin Empire (See: Keith’s shirt on the Twokinds home page) the crossed off version makes sense for people banished from it. For more info, look up the updated map sketch.
