I think the whole "downvote comments" concept is pretty stupid to be honest... I had to go and set my threshold to something like -99 so I could always see all the comments... comment downvote button is kind of like a BAWWWWWWW button. Now watch my comment get down voted.

Downvoting comments per se isn't really that much of an issue, the automatic hiding is much worse. It's fine if a user can decide that they don't want to see particular content, like we have a blacklist for posts, but automatically hiding posts would be a very bad design choice. Hiding comments should be opt-in not opt-out.
