I find it baffling that people still use "gay" without knowing it's offensive. As if someone wants to be identified by their sexuality, and a vulgar word for their sexuality at that.

It is all about context. The word "gay" used to mean "happy", such as the phrase "Gay ol time".

For a while being homosexual was highly taboo, and that's how "gay" started to be used as an insult and derogatory phrase.

Now "gay" is just shorthand for "homosexual", usually a male homosexual but I often see it applied to females as well. People do still use it as an insult but other people use it as self identification and linguistic shorthand.

One thing it can be compared to is how African-Americans use "the n-word" amongst themselves as a means of "taking control of the word", often homosexuals will use "gay" in a similar fashion.

In the context of the comic the character in question is, well, questioning their sexuality. They are not using gay in a derogatory manner, just as shorthand for homosexual.
Words, in and of themselves, are not offensive, it is the matter in which they are used. Words are just a means of conveying information, and the intent of the information is what is offensive.

I don't like it when people use the word "gay" in a derogatory manner, I won't excuse it, but just blanket saying "this word is bad, people shouldn't use it at all" is also not a good thing.

On another matter some people do want an identification for themselves and their sexuality. I, personally, was very worried and confused about my own orientation and the matter of my sexual arousal, or more correctly, my lack of such things. Then I found out that "asexual" was a "thing" and it made me feel a lot better about myself, to have a word to define me as a person. Before then I had never come across the concept and it was only ever "het or homo" so me not having that made me feel bad, but once I had a word to define how I was I felt better.

Words don't change their meaning to what you think them to mean.
Words don't mean what you want them to.
    Words are subjective.
A word is not bad if you say it is bad.
    Context matters.
People are going to use good words in a bad context and bad words in a good context, that's what makes the whole ingenuity about language work.
Other people are not going to change their interpretation of a word to what you want it to be.
You cannot enforce your interpretation of a word onto every other being on this planet.
Stop creating problems where there are none.
Right now, the word "Galactica" has taken on a vulgar meaning and it is entirely your fault, please change your name as I now have to associate it with your shitpost. That's the kind of absurdity your ways end up in, if you follow them.

Since when is the word gay offensive? What? That's like saying lesbian or black or white or bisexual is offensive. It's not being used as an insult here so I don't know how it could be taken the wrong way.

well, I probably should have made this clear, but I was satirizing the "cboy" comment on the last page.

I don't hate gay people. I don't find them offensive. That's moronic. I mean, I'm gay myself. Check my comments if you want proof. As petty as it is, I was using the same format of the comment the whiner used the last page to show how stupid of a point they're making. People get labeled by their genitals all the time. Saying it's offensive is as retarded as saying they're offended by being "gay."

Sure, I'm a little miffed at how people missed the point but then again, this wasn't a great joke to begin with. So if I pissed anyone off, sorry. My bad. I'll try not to make shit jokes in the future.
