Pink 'n Sticky
I know I'm supposed to be studying, but I just couldn't resist doing one more picture before going back to work. I got some new toys in the mail! Err, the art kind. I just had to give them a spin.
For the curious minded, I got a couple of things- firstly, a truely -massive- amount of watercolour paper. A whole roll of it. It's a lot thinner and smoother, which makes it a ton easier to work with. I'm going to enjoy using it immensely.
I also got a few fine liner brushes and some india ink. I find pens just don't work particularly well on watercolour paper and give me lots of trouble. So I'm going to try switching to brushing on my ink. It's extremely expressive and gives a lot more control over line width, I can do incredibley fine lines now! The flipside to that is that it's much more challenging and will take some getting used to. There's some pretty shakey spots in the inking here, but I'll get used to it over time.
I also have a whole lot of new, artist quality paint to play with, as opposed to the horribly cheap paints I've been using all along. I haven't cracked them open yet, and I probably won't for a little while, at least until I have a solid idea of what I'm doing, so for now my pictures are still in really bad paint because I don't want to waste the expensive stuff on learning. Looking forward to switching over though!
So yes, very exciting times over here. This picture in particular is kinda crappy, honestly it was just a throw away picture 'cause I wanted to play with my new toys. Tried a few different things- a grey underpainting for shadows, makes things look a bit flat so I won't be doing that again. Also tried to find a lazy quick way of doing fabric folds, which failed -miserably-, but I've got a few ideas on how to do that better so no big deal.
Just playing around on this one, so go easy on me. :P Still, perhaps some of you guys will enjoy it, so if you do, feel free to let me know! I always enjoy getting fun comments.
