The Farmer’s Market on an early Saturday morning was filled with the sights and scents of fresh fruit, grown vegetables, and varying oddities like homegrown honey. From professional farmers that would keep the best of their crops for the weekend sales to amateur growers who had a small part of growing land usually near their apartment or on the roof of their loft, there was all sorts of folks who came to the market to set up shop in hopes of getting their product picked up by a local grocery chain. And for the consumer it was a chance to get high quality produce while paying chain market prices, since all the profit would go directly to the grower rather than varying numbers of middlemen it took to land at a local grocery store.
While Sherri normally enjoyed sleeping in on her Saturdays she had been instructed by the good doctor to go for organic foods during her pregnancy. She normally didn’t care for the organic label seeing it as some fancy new fad rather than actually tasting better than the competitors, or even different in most cases! However even if she didn’t care for the folksy labels of ‘organic’ she did enjoy the early morning shopping and perusing all sorts of things that peaked her interest in the various booths.
“Want a free sample ma’am?” An undeniably country voice caused Sherri’s ears to perk but the idea of a free sample turned her head. “Figure it’s the least we can do for a soon to be mom.”
