It would be really neat if e621 could detect solid-black thumbnails and then generate a new thumbnail from like five seconds in. I'm no programmer so I have no idea how hard that would be, but it sure would be useful.

I think the easiest way to go about that would be a 2-fold check: run from the beginning until a different frame comes, then check how much of it is still the same. If it's largely the same, repeat the process.
