Bassel's really chill about the whole "hey-my-mom-is-fucking-me" stuff, huh

He does make sure that Amon is okay with it.

Personally, I don't care about the sex lives of other people as long as everyone involved is a consenting adult, and I know I'm not the only one that feels that way, though we are outnumbered (or outshouted) by all the people who care way too much about other people's sexuality.

  • I STILL don't see how Monique reconciles this while still staying true to her own morals. I've never believed that a mother should HAVE to be miserable or essentially sell their soul, even for their child. (and yes, I have a loving mother, I talk to her every day, and she's done everything for me to get me to where I am, which I'm rather happy with). They're people too and deserve some sort of happiness or mental peace. It sounds callous, but I still submit that she should essentially split herself from him and Kyra wholesale and stay out of his life entirely. Respectfully disown him in all but words. He's happy with Kyra, let her take care of him as he is, and while I doubt she'll ever just stop caring about him, she can put some distance between them to dull the worry.

I always find it sad when a parent values their morality over their child. Sure, there are times when a parent needs to drawn the line, but here the only damage is to her sense of self-righteousness.

Granted, incest is a tricky subject, but really, if they're happy, can't she unbend a bit and be happy for them?

Echoes of parents disowning children for being gay or for loving someone who is the wrong color or religion or what have you. (And yes, incest is more complicated than LGBT, so the comparison isn't exact. But the comic does strongly suggest that everything is consensual.)

How can I join discord. I need a invitation

Discord is not like i.e. facebook, where you log on once and are in.
It has individual servers and you need an invite for each one.
If one sends you an invite to their server, then you are just on their server.
So basically you were asking for any random person to add you to a running conference call. Probably not your intention. ;)
(also you posted this twice. Probably delete your duplicate post.)

Moniques main problem was the damage to amon's abilities to form relationships outside of family, which is probably the 2nd biggest problem with incestuous relationships that isn't uncommon. Hell, i think chapter 1 KINDA proves that point, though it Is very early on.

I personally don't care for the sexual part of it, but i can't disagree with monique aboute the relationship bulding part either.

    Spoiler
the reason i end up loving this chapter is because you get to see his relationship with bassel as adults and basically the baby steps to what could be amon's abilities to build relationships outside of family.

Yeah, what matters is that everyone is being safe, smart and ok. That's all I care about, the rest is none of my bees wax.

I don't have an issue with his mother expressing her concerns, but ultimately it really isn't any of her business. If she wants to disown her son, that's on her, not him (or his other mother, for that matter.)

The only problem with incest between adults is the potential for coercion--though that potential is all too common in non incestuous relationships-- but coercion doesn't appear to be an issue. Certainly his mother hasn't bothered to find out.

Does this mean I support incest? I suppose, but only insofar as I support people minding their own business (once its clear that a relationship is consensual.)

  • Bassel is a hero! The fact that he's focused more on Amon's enjoyment than "Oh my god, you fucked your mom?!" Is the perfect base for a chill dude.

You seem to be misunderstanding what I mean from this. I'm not saying she should disown him because of what HE'S doing, I'm saying she should disown him because of what SHE'S doing. As far as I can tell, she's unable to really reconcile this without essentially condoning it, which goes against her morals. This way he can do as he likes and she won't be interfering in his life- which is why he moved out in the first place, if you recall.

    Does that make sense?

Yes, and I agree with you. We all have lines that can't be crossed, and its better to step back rather than stay in a toxic situation. We all need to do what we must for our health and sanity.

But seeing as I don't draw the line where she does, I think she's making a mistake, and I find that sad. I don't condemn her for it, though--he's an adult, he can take care of himself (as you point out.)

  • don't be what someone else thinks you should be, be who you are.
If both are happy that's all that matters.
Everybody is different what works for some may not work for the majority, but that doesn't make it wrong, if it is right for them two, then it is right.
