Thats pretty much a thing you can do in D&D, Centaurs are medium creatures and there aren't any rules that say a centaur can't ride a mount.
It gets funnier because even though they are medium creatures they can be ridden like a mount, so technically if I remember correctly you can just have a tower of centaurs.
