If the dehumidifier, and everything that goes with it is kept clean, they could end up with the purest water they've ever had.
On the other hand, they could just attach the two machines' reservoirs to each other, set the dehumidifier above the humidifier, and just end up with an endless cycle.

It wouldn't be endless, because you are still losing water as vapor and you would probably breath it in, but the water inside the chained together machines would eventually run out. It would in theory if the humidifier was sterilized after each time it reaches empty, you would get a very pure water source.
