It's paying homage to the old Digimon game for the PSX, where they would get the same symbols above their heads (the meat for hungry and the pile of shit for having to use a bathroom).

And having to use the bathroom was rather annoying if you were in the middle of no where and had to run all over the place looking for some random toilet in the middle of the woods.
