Likely. I've found that dogs are actually highly curious about things like that (By which I mean, any scent belonging to their owner).
My own dog, whenever I'm out of the house, will rush over and start sniffing me all over to know where I've been and what I was doing, once I get back.
Anyways: He's likely drawn to it because it's something he's never scented before, and canines by nature are quite curious, and driven by scent.
