Pound Puppies
Over on Patroooon I put the individual line art for these guys up a while ago, but I'm still on a Pound Puppies nostalgia kick so I decided to give it a simple colouring job...
...and artificial shitty 80's VHS noise and blur because the highest quality this show exists in is like watching it through a magnifying glass at the bottom of a glass of sprite.
If you were born after Jesus Christ you probably don't remember the original Pound Puppies cartoon, and honestly that's probably for the best, because it was so bad (EVEN BY HANNA-BARBERA STANDARDS!) that they had to reboot it after the first season into 'The New Pound Puppies,' and even then it only got one more season and a fever-dream of a movie.
By which I mean I freakin' love it. The first season especially is so crazy; they clearly didn't give a shit about making it consistent, or child-appropriate, or good to look at. They sanitised and refined it a lot for the second season which was a shame, giving it a more 'carebears-y' framework and a cuter art style. I don't like the second season much.
So, after re-watching season 1, I was inspired to see what the characters would look like in my style. As it turns out... the redesign artists for season two were also wondering that, as the style of season 2 was pretty close to what I did here. I probably should have watched season 2 before doing this... ah well.
All that is to say, I do NOT recommend watching this show if you didn't watch it as a kid. You will unwatch ME in rage if I recommended that.
Just know that there in an episode that is basically Casablanca except that instead of Nazis there is a giant, uniformed, muscular man with a robotic arm and invisible face called Captain Slaughter.
And Cooler's completely non-problematic-however-you-slice-it catch phrase: "Let's get pounding!"
