Something must have happened regarding Rarity.

The reason I say this because arguments like this only usually occur when both parties are strongly passionate about the same subject, but have different views on it.

I'm thinking one of two things happened. The first is that something bad happened to Rarity and they blame each other. The second is that spike has gotten more serious in pursuing Rarity, and Twilight is trying to put an end to it so that Spike doesn't end up with a broken heart and Rarity doesn't have a guilt-trip over it.
