New Ru - Opossum Ru
Yup. Some of you may have gotten a little hyped up after the last sketch I posted. I apologize for that. For now all you get is a shitty scribbled character ref because I don't have time and energy to do anything more involved. I'll definitely be doing it later though, I just sorta want to get things started for now.
So, let's talk Ru. Ever since I first made him, waaay back when he was just a red fox, I picked his character design based almost entirely on whatever I thought looked nice. If I thought a species was kinda cool I just sorta slapped some of it on. That did the trick for a while...
Lately I've wanted my character to feel a bit more like me, though. Ru looks cool, but he's way too flashy and badass to have anything in common with me. He doesn't feel like me at all. I wanted to redesign him entirely, start from scratch and pick something that felt a bit more like me. After thinking for it a bit, an Opossum felt like the right fit. Most of the reasons are rather unflattering so I won't really go into it, but it does seem to make a rather good fit.
There are some elements in common with the old Ru, that's not an accident. I rather did like how he looked, he just didn't feel like me. A few of the markings and ideas are borrowed over.
I tried to make him look rather scruffy and unkempt all over, because I don't pay any attention to how I look unless I have to. When I'm forced to go into public I make a pathetic attempt to clean up, but really I'm a mess most of the time. Not dirty- I shower, I just put on shirts full of holes afterword and go weeks without brushing my hair sometimes. I see no reason 'possumru would be any different.
He's mostly white for now because I'm extremely pale, I don't go out pretty much ever. Short brown hair, this'll just change to match whatever I've got going on in real life. Should be wavier and less spiky, I'll have to look into that. He's a bit pudgy and rather out of shape, but hardly fat. Just sorta average. Some facial scruff, because I'm lazy and don't shave very often. Most of the time I'll have a few days worth of five 'o clock shadow going on.
His bits have received a rather important overhaul. I'm a hugely, -extremely- against circumcision. The mere mention of it gets me kinda pissed off. And yet my own character never really had anything going on in the foreskin department. Seemed kinda silly, so he's been changed to have more human-style, uncut bits. Also a bit more reasonable size if I can help it. Aiming for 5.5-6 inches, it's easy to get carried away when drawing porn though.
So if you were ever wondering what I got going on down there, now you know.
And that's pretty much it. Very few markings, not much colour. Perhaps not nearly as attractive depending on your preferences, but hey, neither am I. I'm just an average guy with nothing special going on, and so is Ru. That's fine with me!
It's going to take some getting used to, and expect tweaks to the design while I settle in, and of course I'll have to do a proper, much less ugly ref sometime, but for now... here is your new Ru. I hope at least some of you like him.
It's gonna feel weird for a while. x3
