  • You know, I get watermarks. They prevent people from printing their own prints. But this person isn't printing or selling shit. Whats the point? LOL

  • To maintain originality of character. Or at least, that's what I've understood it to be; They operate in Second Life as a photographer(?) so ensuring that no one copies their design is important I guess? Not even that original (Not that I'm one to talk)

  • Water marks on this kinda stuff is just.. /facepalm Doesn't help with anything except an annoying reminder of who the artist or the owner or w/e is.. which could all be placed down in a corner or in some other clever place so as to not detract from the piece itself.

  • But in the corner can be edited out, or cropped. But this here... taking it a little far and it detracts from the image.

The avatars design is a generic KZK fox, or DSD Fox, with pretty stock coloring for SL, black and pink, woopdiedo, see it all the time.

Watermarks MUST contain the "©" followed by their REAL NAME to be valid.

She didn't draw the image, therefore it doesn't matter where it is. If she did, then the person that edited it out is liable for "Actual Damages" under Copyright Law.

As an actual Photographer in the REAL WORLD, that does nothing as the work was never their's in the first place (the work is that of the person who created the avatar). Screenshots, last I checked, are not covered under Copyright Law as nothing would be of her own design nor is it her own creation (unless stated and proven otherwise).

Hyosube should REALLY research Copyright Law properly. As a Photographer, I did so to ensure I knew how protected I am against Copyright infringement, what type of Art/Photographs (SL "Photography" is NOT REAL PHOTOGRAPHY) are covered under Copyright Law, which countries my Copyright is legal in, how to do a proper Copyright watermark (both on-image and in-file), and much more.

I was merely responding to the person asking about what watermarks are used for, don't lynch me! XD the entire reason I wrote it 'photographer(?)' is because they can claim it, but it doesn't make it true.

  • To be fair.. to simply say it's copyrighted isn't enough.. if you post it online, it's subject to fair-use UNLESS you legally spend the money to have the design/artwork copyrighted which can cost quite a bit of money.

  • I'm just glad the artists of The Renaissance period did not feel the need to slap crap like this all over their artwork...imagine the Mona Lisa with the word "Michelangelo" written all over her face. (Yes, I'm aware Hyosube's not the artist, I'm just making a point).
