By the way, anyone know what the name of this species is supposed to be? Because as far as I know they're never mentioned in the show and I'd really like something more official than "bat-pony". I'm pretty sure the "thestral" tag may have something to do with it.

A few people do try to force them to be called "thestrals," but frankly, that has nothing to do with anything.

Need I remind you that ponies like Applejack are called Earth Ponies, so batpony fits pretty well.

Alright, Batpony it is. Also, why are me and other guy voted down? What did we say? No one else thinks it would be cool to see more of the Batpony type characters in the show? No one wants to know more about them straight from the show? Or even see what they're like? Other than being some kind of guard for Luna?

I remember reading a fanfic that had a good sounding faux-Latin name for the batponies but now I can't recall it. Any ideas?
