Depends! Sounding can be awesome as fuck as long as you are really careful. A very soft object like a Tentacle wouldn't hurt at all. As long as, well, it doesn't stetch out the Urethra a lot. Actually, a Q-tip is anything else than soft and easy to glide in. Since it actually has a raw structure and I guess your Uretha was not really stretched/wide open before, you just rubbed the texture along your inner walls. Try out a glowstick, the soft ones you can easily reform.

a glowstick? not a fun idea... if you're going to use anything, go for a professionally made sounding rod, and keep it sterile. use *lots* of lube, preferably some of the quite runny stuff.

If you've tried it out then you did it the wrong way, using the wrong material and tools. You want something soft or squishy, yet firm. And it should also not be rough. Like, at all. Also, LUBE. You don't want a dry tool!
