Before BotW and TotK there were barely any cross species couples (aside from some implied ones and maybe when Ruto said that she'll marry Link when they'll get older in OoT).

I hope they'll mix couples between the species more in the next games. It could really be an interesting point of lore and make up for pretty wholesome stories.
But I doubt it... I feel like Nintendo are kind of the expert at cold feet in their scenarios...
