Let's roll back to page 26 where Nina mentions that Nate had planned to work upon the others. But he spent so much time on her, she feels guilty as if he wasted all that time on her alone. Given that none of the others were as advanced in their design as Nina, we can assume she was the first and would have been the base blueprint for additional breakthroughs. However, given his declining health, that dream for Nate just grew narrower and narrower until it became a final struggle to give her whatever he had left in him.

Let's hope they have a good plan for her to leave when no one would notice or know. At least in the way her future boyfriend won't get in trouble for this.

It's what I love to hear. It's one of the largest reasons I have been so fixated on stories and art for nearly all of my life since I was in middle school. These feelings are what makes life for us. Good and bad. And your feelings matter. Being able to bring them to the surface is one of the few reasons that still keeps me going when I would have fallen apart long ago.

If it makes you feel any better, even now, reading the words on the last page "I would give it all up just for a few minutes with you" genuinely brings tears to my eyes still.
