Being a paladin is more than adhering to a religion. What makes a paladin is their devotion to an oath, not their devotion to a deity. A paladin is just likely to follow a god who falls in line with their oath.

I actually have a good example of this, a buddy of mine was a paladin In a homebrewed dnd session, and he followed the demon of freedom (in that campaigns universe demons represented desires and wants, like power, lust, love, etc) cause he had a oath to put an end to the slaver ring in that realm
