News: Feb 26, 2025 Show

Feb 26th:A new bill in Arizona is making its way through the Senate that would force sites like e621 to implement mandatory age verification for all users—or face potential lawsuits. This system would require third-party vendors to verify every user’s age through a government database. Not only is this a massive violation of privacy, but it also introduces serious risks, including identity theft through phishing schemes and other malicious methods. Worse still, we would have no control over ensuring that user data is permanently deleted after verification.

Since e621 operates out of Arizona, this law would almost certainly impact us if it passes. If you want to help ensure that we can continue serving you without being forced to collect personal information, we urge you to contact Arizona’s senators and ask them to vote NO on this bill.

The sheer amount of downvotes ive seen art get simply for having a trans flag and not being porn is crazy, and i've gotten transphobic comments on my own art. some people will also fight tooth and nail to defend nazi content on this site. The moderators are overwhelmingly neutral in my personal experience and will do very little to disuade passive bigotry unless it is an obviously extreme case that cant be ignored.

    (this isn't really helped by the fact the rules of the site itself sort of just emulate a centrist/neoliberal type ideology and have no real incentive to actively do anything about the spreading of intolerant ideologies or beliefs with the exception of obvious direct harassment, but that only means people can just tiptoe around the rules and a lot of people probably wont notice or care)

    That's not to say there's a complete lack of better people on e621, but i personally dont find the average of the userbase to be very virtuous and i think it can get rather toxic especially depending on the kind of content being posted. But that's just how I feel about the userbase personally.
