Description

When humanity finally begins to explore the stars, they are eager to befriend the civilizations they encounter, but galactic affairs are not so simple. An interplanetary war rages, and the fledgling human space navy finds itself caught between two sides of the war. The Federation, on one side, is comprised entirely of herbivorous species and is terrified of all predators, including humans. On the other side, the Arxur are carnivores who defeat and devour their enemies in combat.

Humankind's initial alliance with the Federation is on shaky grounds, and as if landing in the middle of a centuries-long war wasn't enough, they face an increasingly complicated galactic political landscape. Earth must fight for its survival, while also showing restraints to avoid herbivore allies viewing them in the same light as the Arxur.

Can humanity show a galaxy of potential friends and allies that they aren't the monsters lurking in the dark by protecting them from the Arxur, or will the very attempt to do so show the depths of depravity and violence that humans can resort to?

  • Humans could also befriend both the Arxur and the Federation, then mediate a peaceful solution between the two of them. The Federation might not want to admit it, but they could use at least one friendly omnivorous species on their side.

The problems are that, on the Arxur side, MEGA SPACE NAZIS won their world war conflict by taking advantage of what the Federation did.

On the Federation side, the hatred propagated and sustained by the Kolshians and Farsul keep the hatred going.

  • Superb!

Also, "don't read the comments if you haven't read the story yet" continues to be extremely sound advice...

From what I understand of the story, based on narrations of chapters I've followed along with on YouTube on up to Chapter 98, the Federation sent their cure for "predator disease" to the Arxur first, claiming it'd be a cure for their hunger. But, the Arxur, a strictly carnivorous species, found the cure almost killed them, even eliminated their food source. So, in order to survive, they bred themselves for aggression and turned to preying on the Federation. Basically, if it hadn't been for the Arxur having such a negative reaction to the Federation's "cure," and if the Arxur hadn't been ahead of humans in that regard, humans would likely have gotten the cure first; and the Federation would've likely eliminated perhaps their best chance at having omnivorous friends, not to mention what humans would've lost. So, it seems to me, in the realm of the Nature of Predators story anyway, that humans owe the Arxur that much. Perhaps there are some humans that could help the Arxur find better ways of approaching their matter with the Federation?

And, as for the Federation, if the Kolshians and the Farsul are the source of the hatred, the best thing to do might be to establish human friendshipping-mission colonies on their home worlds.

  • Today I learned that The Nature of Predators is being released as an official paperback book. This is a dangerous thing, since now I am tempted to buy it.

Edit: I caved and bought it. No regrets.

The book released two days ago and is available immediately. It goes up to Chapter 40 (revised to fix continuity errors) plus has several side stories that were only available on Patreon. I believe there’s projected to be around 5 or so more books in the series by the time it’s done.
