I had assumed because they're Humanoid Mammalian Reptiles, the Fertilization happens within the Womb and then the Egg grows larger to be laid at a later date. Like Humans, unfertilized Eggs just get absorbed back into the body.

It can be both!
You can read it as 'my formative years', as in the singular contiguous block of time.
You can also read it as 'the years that were formative', as in the plural of individual years themselves.
It's perhaps somewhat counterintuitive, but it's kind of like an optical illusion in that the word you choose (between "many" and "much") directly contextualizes how the following phrase is interpreted.
