  • This week's fun animal fact: despite having "lion" in their name, mountain lions are not considered big cats. This is because they do not have a special hyoid bone in their throat like other big cats, meaning they are unable to roar. Instead, mountain lions growl, hiss, and can even purr.

I will be back next week with another fun animal fact.

  • I can not wait for this comic to really start picking up. Like god damn probably barely halfway through and it's been a solid 10/10 the whole time (imo)

Dude could just lay on his side back to back with her if he's so worried about it.

But then that wouldn't lead to sex, which is where the story is trying to go

the reason is not necessarily due to them not being able to roar, just due to genetics and taxonmy really, mountain lions are part of the subfamily felinae, which includes cheetahs, domestic cats, and numerous species of wildcats.

there was a time when animals were classed into groups by whether they can do this or looked like this though, although that's an outdated system and the modern cladistic classification system is more favored nowadays.

Yes, they switched away from the “able to roar” criteria to something a bit more scientific, like the taxonomy. The “panthera” vs “felinae” classification just happens to also make the distinction of being able to roar or not
